Did you earn a 3rd Class degree in the University?

For many people, holding a 3rd class degree is a disappointment. First of all, what is the purpose of going to the university and earning a degree?  getting a good job right after. right?.

"Well employers only look for the best graduates to employ, I mean who would employ a 3rd class graduate when there are 1st class and 2:1's out there. There is a less chance at getting a good job, except the miserly paying, time consuming , and extremely boring jobs outside the city. Oh dear"

If you are a 3rd class graduate, there is a very good chance that that could be your line of thinking. I am also a 3rd class degree holder, though it shows only on my transcript. My overall GPA came to 49.99, but was rounded up to 50 as a compensated pass. On my degree certificate, it shows a 2:2. However, I am more comfortable with  the 3rd class, and I wouldn't have minded that to be printed on my degree certificate. Reason being that 3rd class is the truest reflection of my skills and abilities, it shows my truest academic standing. And hey, I am proud of that.

I am proud of that because I had a good time at the University. 3rd class degrees do not also mean that employers will look down on you. Simply because it is a generally agreed concept that degrees only, or degree classifications only, do not reflect the whole skills and abilities of graduates. In fact, it is only a fraction of one's abilities. So, employers look for so many abilities, including extra-curricular interests, and put them up together in order to know the true standing of  the applicants against their selection criteria, before they reach decisions on the right employees to employ.

Therefore, since 3rd class is not a curse, let's raise our heads up high, and face the world. Still, if you cannot do that, there are so many options available to have a second shot at improving on your degree. You can take professional courses, and along the line, maybe half way through, you can gain a degree in a far lesser time, and more convenient and flexible mode than it would be at the university. There is also the option of doing a top-up degree, especially in UK universities where it should take only anywhere between 9 months to 12 months to complete. Here, you have the best chance at getting even a 1st class degree.

What's  more, so many of them come with scholarships in forms of fee reductions and bursaries to make it very easy for intending students. If you think you might be interested, leave a comment, and we shall be glad to help.

Sincerely,
